Breaking Dawn Wedding Designer Talks Working On The Film!

Want to know what goes into creating a wedding like Edward and Bella’s from the Breaking Dawn Movie? Read below as the film’s wedding designer talks working on the vampire flick!

From  BridalGuide:

Who’s excited for the DVD release of Breaking Dawn tomorrow at midnight?! To get the inside scoop on the beautiful wedding scene that’s sure to inspire tons of upcoming weddings, we caught up with wedding designer Tammy Polatsek, the woman behind all of the amazing design aspects of Edward and Bella’s wedding.

Where did Polatsek get her inspiration for the scene? “Since the wedding took place in a forest, we wanted to mimic the life that a forest can give you,” she said. “We drew inspiration from the surrounding trees, stones, ferns, and everything else that grows in a forest.”

Wisteria cascading from the trees, hand-strung by a group of 20 people, created an intimate feel at the ceremony.

“My absolute favorite was the ceremony!” said Polatsek. “So dreamy and worth the hard work. The flowers that fall from the trees as she walks down; just a dream!”

The biggest challenge? The weather! “It was freezing, and the flowers had to be replaced on an hourly basis at times.” And, much like Forks, it rains “500 days a year,” said Polatsek.

“We had the nightmare wedding all done—custom white stage, stunning, all ready to go, and—boom—rain!” said Polatsek. “We covered everything and planned to shoot the following day, but when we came back, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. An animal went from the mud to the stage that was so nicely painted and made foot prints all over it!”

At the reception, the goal was to make the centerpieces “grow out of the tables.” The centerpieces used delphiniums, viburnums, white lilacs, ranunculus, and sweet pea, plus stones, ferns, and moss. “We didn’t want the typical rose/hydrangea combination. That was too arranged,” said Polatsek.

Polatsek custom-crafted the dishes used in the movie, and you can even get your own set here.

The whole wedding scene took almost four weeks to create. While Bella and Edward’s wedding décor would’ve cost about $300,000 by Polatsek’s estimate, you can get the look and feel of the Cullen wedding for less.

“Anything earthy and real to nature will bring in that look,” said Polatsek. “Use a green, white, and brown combination, and keep it simple. Nature is beautiful; you don’t need to overwork it! No tall vases; things don’t grow in glass filled with crystals.”

‘Breaking Dawn’ Visual Effects Supervisors Talk Making Breaking Dawn!

Trevor Hogg chats with visual effects supervisors John Bruno, Phil Tippett, Edson Williams and Bruce Woloshyn about the making of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1:

“Bill [Condon] told me they were going to break it up in two parts because the book was so large,” recalls American Visual Effects Supervisor John Bruno of his initial meeting with the Oscar-winning writer-director to discuss the cinematic adaptation of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Bruno was intrigued by the concept. “Bella [Kristen Stewart] gets married, has vampire sex, becomes pregnant, loses 30 pounds, gets sick, is close to dying, they forcibly get the baby out of her, she dies and comes back as a vampire in Part One; in Part Two, we get to experience everything that happens to her as a vampire. I thought, ‘Well, that’s different. I like this.’” 1275 visual effects shots had to be completed within a schedule of three months. “It was broken down that the wolves would be [the responsibility of Phil] Tippett.” Beyond refining the signature shape-shifting creatures there were two more major issues. “The other things were the ‘Bella Effect’ and the Renesmee Baby, which in the next movie grows rapidly [into an adult].” Bill Condon needed to be guided through the unfamiliar world of visual effects. “Bill said, ‘I trust you know what you’re doing,’” recalls Bruno who had to address an overriding concern for the filmmaker; Condon did not want the performances of his actors to be replaced digitally. “The biggest thing in this whole approach was to never lose the expression and the emotion in the eyes of the characters.”

“In movie one, Bella was going to lose weight and look very bulimic,” states John Bruno who utilized a combination of practical and CGI effects to make the 200 ‘Bella Effect’ shots believable. Under the supervision of John Rosengrant, the creature effects company Legacy Effects made a series of appliances which were added to actress Kristen Stewart during a three hour makeup session; they were designed to sink in her eyes, and enhance her cheek bones, chin, and collarbones. Test footage was shot and sent to Lola VFX which was responsible for squeezing and thinning the image. “The main reason for using the prosthetics was the hope that many shots would be good enough in camera, and it would reduce the digital shot count,” explains Lola VFX Visual Effects Supervisor Edson Williams who had previously collaborated with Bruno on making Magneto (Ian McKellen) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) look 25 years younger in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). “It ended up creating more work for us because the appliances stuck out at the temples creating odd shadows that then had to be removed; in addition we had to deform the prosthetics down to where Kristen’s natural temple line existed.”

MTV: Breaking Dawn Makes Best ‘Twilight’ Year Yet!

We knew 2011 was going to be a big year in the world of “Twilight” news. The fan base seemed to keep growing by the hour, as did the excitement surrounding the release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1.” The release of a new “Twilight” film also meant that we’d be seeing a lot of the blockbuster franchise’s superstars as they promoted the film — and, boy, was MTV News lucky with how much time we ended up spending with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the gang this year. As such, this week’s “Twilight Tuesday” is dedicated to the best and brightest of those interviews with our favorite stars.

Our first encounter with a “Twilight” star was our chat with Pattinson at the Golden Globes, during which he provided us with a giggly reaction to the first “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ still of Bella and Edward in bed, as well as his positive reviews of Stewart playing a vampire. “It’s like she wanted to do it the entire time,” he told us. “It’s really funny, it’s like a completely different environment on set when she’s a vampire and when she’s not. I think she’s going to do it really well.”

There were also plenty of teases about the film’s most highly anticipated scenes, including the wedding of Edward and Bella and the honeymoon sex scene. Of seeing Stewart in a wedding dress during the filming of their characters’ nuptials, Pattinson said, “She looked amazing. I really didn’t do much than just stand there.”

Stewart later said of the experience: “It was very, very emotional for me.”

Pattinson added, “You kind of realize what the groom’s position in a wedding is, which, in reality, is basically a prop. You stand there in a suit, and then everyone is looking at the girl.”
